Background History

The Revolution are a professional soccer team based out of the United States. They play in the MLS or the Major League Soccer Asscoiation. They won their first major trophy in the 2007 U.S. Open Cup. The club is owned by Robert Kraft. He also owns the New England Patriots. The clubs main rivalry is the New York Red Bull’s. Every time these two teams play their is a sense of rivalry between them.

The Revolution or revs for short missed the playoffs last year by a short margin. Of right now the revs play at Gillette stadium in Foxborough Massachusetts. They are getting their own field in the coming years. The revs are projected to be one of the top teams this season. They have a great group of senior players that can take them all the way to the championship. The Red Sox were one of the first franchises to come into the league in 1901. The Red Sox did not get there name until 1908. The Premier League is a relagation and promotion league. This means that the bottom three teams at the end of every season are kicked out of the league and the top three teams from a lower league are promoted into the Premier League. The season is 38 games and the winner is decided by the team with the most points, there is no playoffs. The top five teams get a chance to compete in other leagues as well. Positions

Defender- a defenders job is to help the goalie by not allowing the other team to shoot the ball.

There are different parts of defending: there is a sweeper or center back, they play as the last line of defense to stop the player from scoring a goal. There are also outside backs, which are the players that play on the outside of the field and are the players that win most of the balls in the back of the field.

Forward/Striker- a strikers job is to score goals, the more goals the striker scores the less pressure they put on their team to keep goals out of their net.

Mildfielder- a midfielders job is to play both offense and defense, they also have to win all the balls in the middle of the field.

There are different positions in the midfield such as offensive midfield, which is the player that plays the closest to the striker. A Defensive midfielder is the player that plays in front of the defense and helps if the other team comes on a counter-attack. Outside midfielders are the players that play on the outside of the field and cross the ball into the box at the top of the field for the strikers to score.
